Description

In the natural aquatic environment of fish ponds it is extremely important that waste production is balanced by waste removal or degradation. If this balance is not maintained the consequences are cloudy water, algae growth or toxin build up. The result of imbalance in the system is poor water quality and, ultimately, stress on the fish. Under these circumstances the fish are more prone to disease and mortality
increases dramatically.

In addition to excretion from the fish, unconsumed food and decaying plant material can contribute to the waste generated in a pond. When this organic material is not degraded efficiently it builds up at the bottom to form a sludge layer. This sludge degrades very slowly releasing sulphides that remove dissolved oxygen – essential for fish life – from the water.

The degradation of protein and fish excreta results in the production of ammonia (NH3) and nitrite (NO2) which if allowed to accumulate are toxic to fish.

In many ponds biological filters are used to provide an efficient biomass to help degrade natural organic materials so that good water quality is maintained.

Typical situations in which the use of „BVL FISH PONDS“ is beneficial include:

  • Pond start up
  • Seeding of biological filters
  • Poor water quality
  • Algal growth
  • Increasing levels of NH3 and NO2
  • Increased turbidity
  • Sludge build up

„Biovala“ harnesses the power of environmental biotechnology to solve the problem by maintaining water quality in an exceptionally efficient manner. „BVL FISH PONDS“ uses only harmless, natural micro- organisms to deal with the problem by degrading organic matter to CO2 and H2O and removing toxic inorganic material especially ammonia and nitrite in a highly effective and environmentally acceptable way.

What is BVL FISH PONDS?

„BVL FISH PONDS“ contains a blend of micro-organisms that have been isolated from the natural aquatic environment. These micro-organisms have been specially selected for their ability to efficiently degrade organic matter and remove ammonia and nitrite in the aquatic environment. These strains grow at a fast rate so that they can quickly colonise a biological filter or pond. In this way they quickly establish a biomass which restores the natural balance in the pond. The strains in the product work in total harmony with the existing biomass and increase its overall efficiency. „BVL FISH PONDS“ is primarily used for treatment of the water and the biological filter.

Directions for use

„BVL FISH PONDS“ is provided on a cereal support and should be rehydrated before use. This is achieved by adding the required quantity of product to 10 times its volume of lukewarm water. The contents should be stirred and allowed to stand for 1 hour before addition to the body of water. For addition to biological filters it may be necessary to use a coarse filter to remove the cereal particles.

Product safety

The micro-organisms in „BVL FISH PONDS“ have all been isolated from natural environments. They have not been genetically modified in any way. These microbial strains have been classified as being harmless to humans, animals and plants. The product is subjected to independent testing to ensure that it is free of Salmonella and other contaminants.
